Songjiang is providing old people shower facilities at six spots in the suburban areas until the end of March.
Without hot water, taking showers in the freezing winter can be a problem for many seniors in these areas.
Chedun Town now opens the shower facilities every Tuesday and Friday for elderly people. Volunteers will arrive beforehand and get the heating equipment ready.
Doctors from the town’s health centers will measure the old people’s blood pressure and heart rate before showering to guarantee their safety.
Funded by the district’s old people’s foundation, the project mainly serves the elders who live alone or have financial difficulties.
Each spot can serve 80 people at a time and about 3,800 old people can enjoy the special service before the end of March.
